Chinmaya Mission Houston – Community Walk-a-thon

1. Walk-a-thon program 7:15 AM – 12:00 Noon

6:30 AM – 7:15 AM Assemble at the Chinmaya Mission Houston (CMH) Courtyard.

2. Parking

  • Three parking areas – CMH parking, Vietnamese Temple across from CMH, and parking lot next to CMH.

  • People arriving from north should park at Vietnamese Temple. People arriving from south should park at CMH parking. When it is full, they will be directed to the Masjid parking.

  • CMH parking area will be closed by 7:00 AM. Anyone arriving after 7:00 AM will have to park either at the Masjid or at the Vietnamese Temple.

3. Dress Code

  • CMH Walk-a-thon T-Shirt. For a small number of people who have registered and could not pick up their T-shirts, a pick-up counter will be open outside the CMH Smrti Hall from 6.45 AM to 7.10 AM only.

  • Shorts are allowed.

  • Volunteers will also be wearing CMH Black Cap and colored bandana.

4. There will be two Medical and two Water Stations – one at CMH and the other at the Park

5. Additional details:

  1. Rain or shine, the walkathon will start at 7:30 AM sharp. Come prepared if it rains.
  2. All participants will go together in order. Please follow instructions given by the volunteers.
  3. Our Acarya and sponsors will lead followed by all park and route volunteers. Their families can also walk with them. We all will leave courtyard in this order and file into the driveway.
  4. Strictly no stragglers. Anyone arriving late will be on his/her own and will have to walk on the pedestrian pathway (like regular public) or drive to the Park
  5. Walkathon will enter the course on Synott Road through the CMH entrance gate. Volunteers and Police will guide and direct participants to the designated lane. There will be front escort Volunteers and Sugar land Police ahead and also at the end –"Sweepers."
  6. Police will fully block one lane of Synott Road for Walkathon participants from the Park, and back to CMH.  All participants must strictly occupy only the designated lane. PLEASE ENSURE THAT CHLIDREN DO NOT DEVIATE AND CRISS-CROSS.TRAFFIC WILL BE FLOWING ON THE REMAINING THREE LANES OF THE ROAD.
  7. Police will be present and manage the flowing traffic at all intersections.
  8. Food and entertainment have been planned from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Park.
  9. All participants will leave the Park together at the same time from the Park AM and return to CMH to complete the
  10. There will be two Medical Stations for First Aid – one at CMH and the other at the Park,both attended by doctors and aspiring/practicing students. The stations are only for administering First Aid and coordinating with medical Emergency centers if needed.
  11. For any medical emergencies along the course, please contact the Police stationed close by, who will in turn coordinate with the Medical Stations appropriately.
  12. There will be two Water Stations – one at CMH and the other at the entrance to the Park. Water bottles will be available.  We request parents and adult participants to ensure that children do not waste water. In addition water will be available at the Food Pavilion in the Park.
  13. Walkathon Course:  We have provided two options: 3K or 5K total return. The 5K route involves a loop-around inside the park. There will be Volunteers posted to direct you to choose the option you wish to complete.
  14. Refrain from littering or throwing garbage, water bottles, or any material along the course. Garbage cans or dumpsters will be placed at the Water Stations and at the Food Pavilion in the Park.
